Le
Bonheur…is
set in a tranquil position with fabulous views across to the local village
of Taillecavat which is just across a small vale. The house itself is down a
short no-through-road, which serves just 3 properties, so is quiet and
totally relaxing, but has some of the most lovely parts of France on your
doorstep for you to explore. It is set on approx an acre of land amongst one
of the stunning local vineyards in the beautifully undulating countryside of
the Gironde. At Le Bonheur, you can swim, sunbathe, play table tennis,
boules and badminton, whilst the garden is large enough for many other
outdoor activities in this gorgeous setting.
Locally…the
village of Taillecavat is about ½ a
mile by road or just a short walk along the verges of the local
vineyards. Here you can buy the essentials for every
successful
French holiday – baguettes and croissants! The historic market town of Duras
with its imposing medieval Chateau, parchment museum, stained glass studio,
cafés, restaurants, and rugby club, is
5 mins from Le Bonheur.
LOCAL
MARKETS…in
France are as much a social event as a shopping trip…There’s
something special about a French Market that epitomizes much of what goes to
create the unique character of France – the
lack of haste, the gentle friendliness of the people who live here and an
abundance of great produce for the BBQ that evening.
There are 100’s of markets in the area, but in the HouseBook we supply we
have recommended the more local/better ones. Markets are normally open in
the morning and there some excellent evening markets in the local towns of
Duras, Monségur and Eymet that are really worth a visit. All have street
food in addition to all the usually fair and usually there is live music –
check the HouseBook for details.
The
Region…and
local area is
blessed
with so many lovely places to explore and visit.
Le
Bonheur is in France’s sunny SW Aquitaine region and perfectly set on
the
confluence of the
French Departments of Gironne (33 - Bordeaux and to the west), Dordogne (24
- Bergerac to the east and north) and Lot-et-Garonne (47 –
Villeréal
and dozens of other lovely towns to the east and south). It is a perfect
place to
relax by the 10x5m
private pool or explore this beautiful part of the world. It is an ideal
centre for visits to the Dordogne valley with its world famous pre-historic
cliff dwellings, as well as the romantic medieval Chateaux in the area and
the 'Bastide' towns (fortified market towns), which are largely as they were
600 years ago.
When
you have booked, we will send you the comprehensive and tailored Le Bonheur
HouseBook, which gives masses of information on the house, as well as lots
of ideas of things to do in the local area and suggested days out. A must is
a visit to the lovely local Chateau in Duras. To the east, there is an
abundance of pretty villages and scenic views, and the west has stunning
routes through seemingly endless lines of vineyards set in the lovely
rolling Bordeaux countryside - Le Bonheur is in the centre of these.
The west also has the largest city in the region, Bordeaux, as well as the
Atlantic coast which boasts 115kms of sandy beaches.
World
renowned wine tasting is available locally in the Duras, Sauterne,
Bergerac
and Monbazillac areas as well as in Graves, Médoc and the picturesque
medieval town of Sainte-Emilion.
The gentle
rolling countryside of the Dropt valley is one
of the most
lovely parts of
France and is
ideal for cycling and hiking. Facilities are available within
a radius of 30 minutes for riding and playing tennis, or canoeing and
fishing on the river Dropt or Dordogne. The magnificent Golf course at Chateau de Vigiers is only 15 mins away and of course the local French
markets which are fantastic. Cycle hire is available in the local village of
Duras and Paddle-boarding has become very popular on the Dordogne. Full
details provided in the HouseBook.
